Mowing in the orchard

Lovely mowing conditions and the chance to cut a nice clean sward for hay making in the orchard at Sprint Mill. Peaceful and sustainable, it's such a nice way to spend the morning and everyone can work at their own pace.

  1. I found this totally by accident, looking for blogs about growing apples in orchards :) My dad had a scythe. He never mowed hay with it- he used it on the wooded lot my family owned just outside of town. The lower portion of the back of the property was wall to wall stinging nettles, chest high, and he used it to cut them down the first time every year, when they were too tall for the riding grass mower. My sister and I would play in the creek while dad cut the nettles away from our camping area.
